About ME

My background and why I do this

Hello, my name is Elvis Caus (pronounced Chaush). I was born in Bosnia, and my family sought refuge in Australia in 1993, making this vibrant country our beloved home ever since.

My journey as a social worker began in 2005, and over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with a wide array of communities. I’ve supported children and adults with disabilities, those involved in child protection and mental health services, individuals living with HIV, and male survivors of childhood sexual trauma, as well as their supporters. My professional experiences have connected me with LGBTIQA+ individuals, First Nations people, refugees, and people from various cultural backgrounds. From starting out in Melbourne, to living in the bustling streets of London, I’ve been proud to call Sydney my home since 2015.

For me, counselling goes beyond just a job; it’s a true calling and a passion. I am deeply committed to the transformative power of empathy, compassion, connection, and collaboration. These principles are at the heart of the safe and nurturing environment I strive to create, supporting your personal growth and healing.

I believe each of us is on a journey to find our true purpose in life. Counselling is more than a career for me; it’s a fundamental part of who I am. It’s my way of walking alongside others on their paths to healing and self-discovery, offering understanding, support, and a guiding hand every step of the way.

What I’m like as a therapist

As a therapist, I embody patience, calmness, and a profound presence. My journey, from being a young refugee to working in diverse settings dealing with childhood and adult trauma, has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and understanding. There’s very little that can unsettle me — I’m here, fully present, and ready to listen.

In our sessions, you can count on an environment where patience is at the forefront, a sense of calm, and my steadfast presence is here to back you up. These qualities aren’t just part of my professional toolkit; they’re integral to who I am. Together, we’ll navigate the complexities of your journey, setting the pace that feels most comfortable for you.

How I work

My approach to therapy is about creating a safe, grounded, and open space as the first paramount step. I believe in an environment where we stand as equals, fostering a space that encourages growth, learning, and the constructive challenge of ideas and thoughts.

There is an array of evidence-based modalities that I use in my practice such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Trauma-Informed Counselling, Relational Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and strength-based approach just to name some.

You’ve sought therapy for a reason, and I am here to hold a safe space for you—to support your journey of growth, learning, and finding strength when needed.

This collaborative atmosphere defines my approach, reflecting my connection and commitment to working together with you.
